Frequently Asked Questions
Are you a landscaping company? Not exclusively, but some of the services offered are landscaping oriented such as heavy-duty brush mowing with an excavator mounted bush hog, tractor bush hogging, vegetation removal and even grading projects. I do not perform hardscaping, lawn mowing, or other lawn services. If it can be done with a mini excavator or tractor I can do it.
Do you do commercial projects? While I have experience doing site prep for commercial projects, the scope of my work entails utilizing smaller heavy equipment for residential and commercial property owners. Services include dirt & gravel road maintenance, ditch cleaning and brush mowing, small clearing projects, etc.
How far away do you travel for work? My service area is within a 30 minute drive time of Holden Beach, NC and includes locations such as Supply, Varnamtown, Shallotte, Bolivia and other surrounding areas.
Are you insured and a licensed general contractor and do you have employees? My business is insured and a certificate of insurance is available upon request. I am not a licensed general contractor because I do not perform work that exceeds the monetary threshold as required by the State of NC to be licensed as a GC. I do not have full time or part time employees. I'm an owner/operator.
How much experience do you have? I have been operating earthmoving equipment since 1997.
Do you offer payment plans? No, I do not offer payment plans. Depending on the job type, payment will either be due upon receipt or taken in draws due to material cost or longevity of the work performed. All payments are currently by cash or check. I do not offer credit card payments at this time.
Do you charge by the hour or by contract price? I will do either depending on the job type or customer request. Each piece of equipment has a minimum hour usage. For example, I have a minimum price to use an excavator or tractor for 4 hours. If a job takes 2 hours you are still required to pay for 4 hours. Hourly rates are provided for legitimate estimates for legitimate customers only.
Do you work on weekends? I do not work on Saturday or Sunday and I do not schedule more than 2-3 jobs per week. This allows me to have excellent quality control and provide top notch service and allow for inclement weather and/or maintenance.
Do I have to be on-site for the work to be performed? No, you do not have to be on-site for the work to be performed, but I do request for you to be available by phone in the event of needing clarification of any situations that may arise on the jobsite and to be able to send pictures of the completed work before leaving the job.
Do you perform major land clearing services? I do not perform major clearing such as major logging operations or burning of land clearing debris. I perform smaller land clearing projects such as backyard extensions, understory cutting/shredding of timbered vacant lots for visual improvement, fire prevention clearing and brush mowing, etc. I also clear and grade for new mobile home installations and build new driveways. All clearing debris is either piled onsite or can be hauled away for additional fees.
Do you do tree work? I do not do tree work. I do clear trees on vacant lots, but I do not fell trees in areas with obstacles such as homes and outbuildings in close proximity or utilities in danger of falling debris. For this type of work please call a tree service.
Do you do land mulching? I do not perform land mulching with skid-steer type equipment. I use a heavy-duty brush mower (bushhog) mounted to an excavator in order to clear understory, clear sapling infested lots, cut fire breaks, clean ditches around commercial properties, clear vegetation from the perimeter of ponds and creeks and maintain right of ways from vegetation encroachment of private roads. I also perform field mowing with a tractor and bushhog.
Do you perform work for HOA's and POA's to maintain private dirt/sand/gravel roads and do you offer yearly maintenance agreements? Yes, I do. Maintenance agreements for private dirt/sand/gravel roads are available upon request. A maintenance agreement covers the cost of dressing a private road with a tractor connected to a grading implement (not your standard box blade) specifically designed for redressing these types of roads to a smooth surface as needed due to rain or snow events and normal erosion. Work will be performed after substantial rains or when requested by the HOA/POA point of contact. New materials such as crushed concreted, gravel, or other fill materials are not included in a maintenance agreement and can be obtained for additional costs. Any spreading of new material with a tractor and grading implement can be included in a maintenance agreement for preventative maintenance. For maintenance agreement pricing a site visit is required in order to inspect the roadway and meet with the point of contact for the HOA/POA. Maintenance agreements are in writing and signed by the HOA/POA contact and me. Maintenance agreements do not cover natural catastrophes such as flooding events or other natural disasters. They are solely for what is considered normal maintenance of a private roadway.
